Please read the important notice below about upcoming changes to the location of Southend Road Surgery and an opportunity for patients to provide feedback on our proposed solution.
What’s happening:
The landlord who owns Southend Road Surgery has served notice that the practice must vacate the current premises by 27th September 2025.
Our proposed solution:
We understand that changes to the location of services can raise concerns, and we have been working closely with NHS Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board (the ICB) to explore all available options to ensure our patients remain able to access healthcare services locally.
We have identified an opportunity to relocate to nearby Corringham Medical Centre where there is available space to accommodate all Southend Road Surgery staff and patient services. This option would ensure all existing patient services could continue in a nearby location, and that our patients have continuity of care with current staff.
Corringham Medical Centre is located 1.2 miles away at 114 Giffords Cross Rd, Corringham, SS17 7QQ.
This is about a 20-minute walk from our current location, 3 minutes by car, or around 16 minutes via public transport via buses 11, 100, or 374.
What this would mean for patients:
- Continued access to GP-led primary care services: All registered patients would continue to be able to access GP services at Corringham Medical Centre
- No need to re-register: Patients would remain registered with Southend Road Surgery and could continue to access services at Corringham Medical Centre
- Contact telephone numbers would remain the same.
- Same familiar staff: All staff (clinical and administrative) would transfer to Corringham Medical Centre. This means that patients would continue to see the same named GP and familiar team members at the new location.
- Improved facilities: Corringham Medical Centre offers modern facilities, significant space, and a large car park, ensuring better accessibility.
Why Corringham Medical Centre?
This site has the capacity to accommodate all Southend Road Surgery staff and services. The relocation would allow our two practices to collaborate more easily, which will create opportunities for future investment in local healthcare.
Patient Engagement Event:
To give patients the opportunity to ask questions and share feedback, we will be hosting a patient engagement event at Southend Road Surgery on Saturday 21st June, 2025 at 10am. Senior management team members will be there to address any questions.
Next steps:
We are launching a 4-week engagement period which will run from Tuesday 10th June – Sunday 6th July 2025 to gather feedback from patients and local stakeholders.
How to share your views:
You can provide feedback via:
Information about the proposal including a copy of a patient notification letter, FAQs, patient survey, posters, and updates, will be available at the surgery and on this website throughout this process.
